Thank you to everyone that attended this event! I had a wonderful time stomping through the snow with you all. The weather was near perfect and the friends new and old made it fantastic. I have edited the photos I took and will get them posted as soon as I get through our family Christmas party with 35+ today....lots of cooking and the usual holiday stuff.

What a great trip, and I agree, weather was fabulous, even though it was not clear. I am looking forward to doing this again in some SS's that are a better fit for me the next time.

First time snowshoeing, had a great time. The distance was just about right for first time, and the snow covered trees were awesome!

It was a great snowshoe experience. Thanks Steve and Jane for your leadership. How did I miss the photo? Was it taken before or after the event? What a great group!

This was the first of two beginner snowshoe trips planned for this winter by trip leader, Steve Dougherty. The trips were offered as a follow up to the recently conducted "Introduction to Snowshoeing" training. The training was delivered at the Chemekeden, in three sessions, in early December, to nearly 200 participants. This trip had been postponed one week due to a forecast of rain and a 9000 foot freezing level.

Twenty-seven participants rallied at the Maxwell Sno-Park in a snow storm. The large group was divided into three groups and shepherded by five assistants. Dave Carter led the charge, breaking trail. Vincent Dunn, Cathy Lazarus, Steve Rockford and Jane Morris monitored the progress of participants while the trip leader brought up the rear. Leaders were each issued laminated maps and two-way radios to aid in communication.

The snow stopped falling shortly after the group departed the parking lot. It took most participants nearly two hours to reach the Mountainview Shelter. The shelter was warm and quite comfortable thanks to the group who was overnighting there. All participants successfully accomplished the two mile/600 foot climb to the shelter.

After eating lunch and taking a group photo, participants reversed course and hiked out to the cars. Average hike out time was one hour.

Mark and I really enjoyed this snowshoe trip - our first. Not too hard and not too easy with great camaraderie among all the participants. I am looking forward to the next trip at Potato Hill. Thanks for heading up this great experience Steve.
